In 1993 the The Mail on Sunday National Golf Club Classic competition was started for amateur golfers on a national level. This year 3000 teams from all over the UK including one from Brynhill Golf club, entered the competion. The Brynhill team played nine knockout rounds , home and away with the last round played at Brynhill against Whittington Heath on Saturday 3rd October. The opposition travelled down from the Midlands on Friday to play a practice round on the course , courtesy of Brynhill. Five players from each team and many supporters gathered by the first tee , in readiness for the first two players to tee off. The supporters (including Barney the dog who is always a regular at these events ) stayed until the last pairing came in to see a win for Brynhill 3-2.
The Brynhill team under the Captaincy of Wayne Adams is now off to sunny Spain courtesy of the Mail on Sunday. Where they will meet another three teams ,Marriot Tudor Park Golf and Country Club. Muthill Golf Club, and Normanby Hall Golf Club where they will stay at the Hotel El Rompido in Andalucia.
The Brynhill team was: Wayne Adams (Captain) , Matt Mullooly, Jamie Griffiths, Scott Warne and Richard Bond.
The Whittington Heath team was : Ryan Brooks, Rory Green, Chris Bailey and Gareth Moore and Chris O’Neill.Their Captain was Paul Clayton (non playing on the day ).
