More Than a Golf Club: Discover the Brynhill Sports Lounge & The Bunker Darts Room
When you think of a golf club clubhouse, you might picture somewhere to grab a drink after your round.
At Brynhill Golf Club in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, we wanted to create something very different.
The result is the Brynhill Sports Lounge – a dedicated, modern sports space that we believe is one of the best you will find at any golf club, complete with multiple large screens, a relaxed atmosphere and its own separate professional-style darts room, The Bunker.
And importantly, you don't have to be a golfer or a Brynhill member to enjoy it.
Whether you're looking for somewhere to watch live sport in Barry, meet friends for a drink, follow the biggest golf tournaments on a huge screen or experience state-of-the-art automatic darts scoring, the Brynhill Sports Lounge has become a destination in its own right.
A Sports Lounge Built for Sport
The Brynhill Sports Lounge is completely separate from our main clubhouse lounge and was specifically designed to create a relaxed environment where sport can take centre stage.
At the heart of the room is a huge 100-inch main screen, complemented by two additional 50-inch screens.
That means when the biggest sporting occasions arrive, you don't have to gather around a small television in the corner of a clubhouse.
At Brynhill, sport gets the big-screen treatment.
From major golf championships and Ryder Cup drama to football, rugby, cricket and other major sporting events, the Sports Lounge provides a fantastic setting to watch the action with friends.
For golfers, there are few better ways to finish a round than coming off the 18th, ordering a drink and watching the professionals battle it out on a 100-inch screen.
But the Sports Lounge has also become much more than somewhere for golfers to meet after playing.
It is a social space in its own right.
You Don't Have to Be a Member
One of the most important things to know about the Brynhill Sports Lounge is that non-members are welcome.
Brynhill may be a private members' golf club, but our Sports Lounge provides a friendly and welcoming environment for members, visitors and guests to enjoy.
You don't need a handicap.
You don't need a set of golf clubs.
And you certainly don't need to have played 18 holes first.
If you simply want somewhere different to watch sport in Barry or the Vale of Glamorgan, come and experience the Sports Lounge for yourself.
Golf on the Big Screen
Unsurprisingly, golf plays a major part in what we show.
The biggest tournaments in world golf deserve to be watched properly.
Throughout the year, the Sports Lounge is the perfect place to follow events such as:
The Masters, The Open Championship, The Ryder Cup, PGA Tour events, DP World Tour events, the PGA Championship, US Open, Senior majors and other major tournaments shown on Sky Sports.
When one of golf's biggest events reaches its final few holes, the atmosphere of watching it alongside other golfers is completely different from watching at home.
At Brynhill, that experience is even better on a 100-inch screen.
Then Take Three Steps Down Into The Bunker...
The Sports Lounge has another surprise.
Take just three steps down from the lounge and you'll discover The Bunker – Brynhill's dedicated darts room.
Rather than simply putting a dartboard on a wall in the corner of the bar, we created a separate space designed specifically for darts.
The result is something that feels much closer to a professional darts setup.
At the centre of The Bunker is the industry-leading Scolia automatic scoring system.
“THE BUNKER” - Professional Darts Room At Brynhill Golf Club
What is Scolia Automatic Darts Scoring?
Anyone who regularly plays darts knows one of the biggest interruptions to a game is keeping score.
Scolia changes that.
The sophisticated camera-based system automatically detects where your darts land and calculates your score, allowing players to concentrate on playing rather than constantly doing the maths.
Your game and scores are displayed on a dedicated 32-inch screen, creating an immersive darts experience.
There's even a virtual game referee that calls out your scores.
Throw your darts.
Scolia detects them.
Your score appears on screen.
And the referee calls the score.
It's about as close as you can get to bringing the professional darts experience into a golf clubhouse.
The Bunker – Darts Meets Technology
Automatic scoring also opens up a completely different way of enjoying darts.
Instead of simply playing traditional games while manually recording scores, technology helps create a faster and more interactive experience.
It makes The Bunker ideal for competitive players, groups of friends and people who simply want to try darts in a modern environment.
Combine that with the Sports Lounge just a few steps away and you can spend an evening watching live sport, enjoying a drink and playing darts without leaving the clubhouse.
One Clubhouse – Different Experiences
One of the things we're particularly proud of at Brynhill is how the clubhouse has evolved.
Golf clubs have traditionally concentrated almost entirely on the golf course.
We believe the modern golf club should offer more.
The course will always be at the heart of Brynhill, but today's club should also be somewhere people want to spend time before and after their round – and somewhere non-golfers can enjoy too.
That's why our clubhouse now offers very different spaces for different occasions.
The main clubhouse lounge provides a comfortable setting for dining, Sunday lunches, celebrations, weddings and events.
The Sports Lounge provides the more informal atmosphere of live sport, drinks, friends and golf conversation.
And hidden just below it, The Bunker provides a dedicated technology-driven darts experience.
Together, they help make Brynhill far more than somewhere you simply arrive, play golf and go home.
The Perfect Place After Your Round
For Brynhill members and visiting golfers, the Sports Lounge has quickly become a natural final stop after walking off the course.
You've played 18 holes.
The clubs go back in the car.
Then it's into the clubhouse.
Grab some food, order a drink, find out what's happening on the big screen and inevitably discuss the birdie that nearly happened or the three-footer that somehow didn't go in.
That social side of golf has always been important.
Facilities such as the Sports Lounge help keep it alive.
Great Sport, Food and Hospitality
Of course, watching sport is always better with good food and a drink.
Brynhill's clubhouse hospitality means visitors can combine the Sports Lounge experience with food and refreshments, making it a great option for spending an afternoon or evening with friends.
For major sporting occasions, it means you don't necessarily have to head into Cardiff to find somewhere with large screens and a good atmosphere.
There's an impressive alternative right here in Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan.
A Different Kind of Golf Club
Brynhill has been part of the local community since 1921, but while we're extremely proud of our history, we're equally focused on what a golf club should look like in the future.
The Sports Lounge and The Bunker are good examples of that philosophy.
Traditional golf club values.
Modern facilities.
Technology.
Sport.
Food.
Hospitality.
And somewhere people genuinely want to spend their time.
We think the Brynhill Sports Lounge is one of the best dedicated sports lounges you'll find in a golf club – but we'd rather you came and made your own mind up.
