UCHELOLAU CHURCH

The "Old Church" at Brynhill Golf Club refers to the ruins of Uchelolau (Highlight) church, which were excavated by the Barry and Vale Archaeological Group (BVAG) in 1964.

The church site is now a protected monument within the Brynhill Golf Club boundaries.

The church site, along with its priest house, a medieval corn-drying-kiln, and the site of a 12th-century manor house, once formed part of a small village that was abandoned in the Middle Ages due to famine and the Black Death.

Located between the walk from the 13th green to the 14th tee. Next time your playing stop for a closer look, not many golf courses can boast of a medieval church on its grounds.

From the Archive features a photograph of the members of the Barry and Vale Archaeological Group (BVAG) taken in September 1966.
