Brynhill History
Brynhill Halletts was founded over 100 years ago.
The course has hosted regional golf tournaments.
The clubhouse was once a farmhouse before being converted.
Founded in 1921: The club began after a meeting at Barry YMCA on 9th February 1921. Land was rented from a farmer for £3 a year — with the condition that he could still graze his sheep on it.
First Course Layout: Legendary professional golfer Ted Ray (winner of the 1912 Open Championship) was paid £10 to peg out the original greens and tees.
Centenary Celebrations: In May 2021, the club marked its 100th anniversary with a special golf day where members played using hickory-shafted clubs, just like in 1921, and dressed in Edwardian costumes.
Course Design: The current 18-hole, 6,500-yard course was redesigned in 1994 by Dave Thomas, the architect behind the Ryder Cup’s Brabazon Course at The Belfry.
Unique Clubhouse Origins: The first clubhouse was literally a portable shed borrowed from Barry Docks, placed near the site of today’s clubhouse.
Community Growth: Membership has surged in recent years, with many former junior members returning as leaders and professionals at the club.
